where can i purchase a nice loking stand that does not screw up the helmet at a resonable cost? Or does anyone have any ideas of making one up?

Hello again Greg,

Helmet stands are problematical. Wood and plastics are not suitable as they can react with the chemicals in the leather of your helmet.

Borrowing again from Tony's bag of tricks, a really simple and effective stand can be made from an old coffee can and a few other bits.

- For display purposes, spray paint the can black.
- Keep the plastic top for the can (no rust transmission that way).
- Head on down to a quilting shop or fabric store and get some unbleached cotton muslin and unbleached cotton quilt batting to make pad for the top of the can.
- The muslin/batting top goes on over the can's original plastic top.

An aside - Unbleached cotton is non-reactive, so won't cause any problems with your helmet liner.

- If you want, you can get a padded top made for the can out of the muslin and batting. Or, you can just cut pieces to fit inside the helmet, place them inside and plunk the helmet down on its new stand.

End of story.

There you go, fiendishly simple, but effective.

Cheers,

Laurie
