WW1 Australian Slouch Hats

I've wanted to add a slouch hat to the collection. Boer War and WWI are likely out. I'll have to settle for a more modern version I guess.

At first glance, it seems rather expensive, but remember, it is not real money, heck, it is not even Canadian money. To be honest, the price does not suprise me, many of these hats that made it home were worn until they were tatters, and they are a very important part of history, more so than a very pretty general's Pickelhaube. I would like to have one too, but I think that it is better for the remaining few Slouch hats to remain in the land of Oz, where they have meaning to nearly everyone who views them. Of course, that does not mean that I will not jump at the chance to add one to my collection if the chance arrives.

Gus,

You are correct, it is not even Canadian dollars, but a high price nontheless. Fortunately, I do have some early slouch hats:

I also have seven WW2-dated slouch hats. I am always on the lookout for early hats.

I hear the WWII ones, and even the Vietnam War hats are on the rise in price too.

Very nice examples you have there. Very nice!

Ok Mike,
I have come to the conclusion that you are a big part of the problem of a shortage of Aussie Slouch hats. Very nice collection.

flasheart,

Someone once told me that the WWI hats had stitching on the brim edge and not the ribbed silk. The first one you picture has this silk edge. I hope that this is OK, as mine has this ribbed material also.
