Chaps,

Just purchased a dozen or so B&W 1930s era German-made WW1 movies from a fellow on Ebay. Great films that I had never seen before. I would assume that they are using original kit, and the battle tactics, battle scenes etc are really quite incredible. The movies are:

Westfront 1918
Stosstrupp 1917
Douaumont
Pour Le Merite
Tannenberg
Niemandsland
13 Mann und eine Kanone
Standschutze Bruggler
Patrioten
Unternehmen Michael

Has anyone seen these movies?

Mike

Hi Mike:

I have seen:

Westfront 1918, aka Vier von der Infanterie (German title)
Douaumont - Die Hölle von Verdun
Pour le Mérite
Standschütze Bruggler

There have been attempts to discuss some of these films in the past:

Hi, The seller's ID is "am productions"

I have watched most of the titles now. The only one with English subtitles so-far is Westfront 1918, but all are good to watch, particularly for the unifoms and equipment, and for the combat tactics. Stosstrupp and Westfront really demonstrate the pre-eminence of the hand grenade in trench combat. In Stosstrupp, the assaulters generally sling their long guns and go over with bags of grenades and a grenade in the hand, just like in the stosstrupp training photos. Any resistance is dealt with by volleys of grenades rAther than rifle fire.

Douaumont is also excellent, semi-documentary format interspersed with actual footage.

Thank's .This sounds like the late and post war method of attack for storm infantry , except greades and spaten usually. But i willcheck out the movies , I have westFront 1917 and enjoyed it greatly.
