I don't.

The Wappen with a "Koenig" bandeau is fairly damning. Four vent holes in the spike is interesting, though.

I' am sure I will be embarassed, but what the hell; I'll ask; how you tell there is a Koenig there Chas? Did I miss it?

Personally, I would not touch one of these with your money.

But man oh man.....if an issued one ever came up............ oy!

Hi Tony:

You may kick yourself, but it's all in the bandeau.

First, the Fuerst: Any genuine Braunschweig plate will have this type of scroll (note: the Wappen pictured here is Reuss; however, all Fuerstum eagles are the same).

Now, here's the traditional Preussen Koenig plate. See the difference?

Beneath the "haunting beauty!!" of that Totenkopf on the eBay listing there lurks a real skeleton, the word Koenig. More's the pity as the helmet would have been excellent if kept legitimate.

Chas. :confused4: Of course. But with that Totenkopf there, covering the top of the Bandeau, I do not see a difference when the top of the Bandeau is covered. Am I missing some indicator? Please keep in mind I am at a hotel in Toronto and have no refs to draw on. T

Hi Tony:

The Fuerst bandeau is "unfurled." As you can see, Vater and land is interrupted by a simulated fold. The Preussen Koenig bandeau reads Vaterland.

Klar?

Chas.

By George, you're right, Dave.

Somebody will crash and burn; five days remaining and the bidding has topped 3K.

Foolish people!

Thanks Chas... I must confess that I had never noticed the difference in the bandeau before and I own 2 well marked Jr 94, 95 helmets! I always just concentrated on the presence of the word Fuerst on the bandeau. The intricacies of wappen design never ceases to amaze me!! Were these design differences negotiated or did they take place due to the mechanics of wappen design?? I would also like to point out that JR91 although it has a seperate Oldenberg coat of arms on the eagles' breast still uses the common Prussian line eagle wappen with unfurled bandeau. Great post!
