Is this the guy that Martin had the problems with? A fresh coat of paint always helps these helmets, don't you think? But I guess my question is were Bing helmets used anywhere else besides Bavaria? Black thin steel helmets were -- -- but Bing?

Hi Joe:

You can rule out Bing as it does not remotely conform to the Bing type. Also worth noting, the eagle appears to have a voided crown and is way too large for the helmet. The shell looks so warped and crude from the inside that I suspect the whole thing is just a fake. Perhaps it is from the same source as James' tin Tschapka.

Why would a tin helmet require a spike base support disc inside? My interpretation is a gigantic hole exists where this thing was rolled together like a cone and hammered into shape.

Crude - e = Crud

Chas.
