Double Felt Ersatz?

Saw this felt posted, but it seems to have an extra thinner black shell inside. I haven't seen one in this style. Does anybody have another example of this?

Great eyes.
You may be right.
Perhaps by laminating 2 layers was a way to create better stiffness in the helm.
Sounds Like a lot of work.
Possibly it was a sewn roll over edge that did not end up well.

Never seen one before but it’s very interesting. Surely it’s 100% original and the exterior shape looks nice. The wappen needs to be reshaped to better fit the helmet body

It seems like it may have been a design choice to sew the liner to the inner black shell and then glue/sew/fit that on the outer shell. I can't even see the seams on the outside. I was curious why they didn't just roll the edge...

The side posts look grey and the spike looks like a bronze color.

It may have been intended to be a wartime model, but got some parts changed out over time. I would imagine grey fittings would be most appropriate...
