I'm fairly new to WW1 German items, any thoughts on this one.

Welcome to the forum! Best thing to do is what you're doing – ask first then buy. Research books help immensely.

Be aware that the antlers on the deer are missing. Common fault but it is a fault. The two sets of chin scales left and right are different. I'm sure others will chime in the welcome again. :wink:
 
Thanks for all of your replys. Yeah, I noticed the mismatched chin scales. I asked the seller some questions, but haven't gotten an answer. Probably one I need to stay away from. I have been into the WW2 German stuff for a while, so I've gotten pretty good a spotting bad things, But just looking around, there seems to be some really good fakes and questionable helmets in the pickelhaube and WW1 arena

There are some really bad fakes also. They keep getting better though. I don't think it's nearly as bad as World War II stuff.
