Okay...am I in the wrong here?

$200 for this little gem?

Padron me while I go put some repo helmets in salt water...

I'd bet lunch and beer at the SOS that the two high bidders are shills. The first, habibi_d, is from NYC just as the seller is. His few recorded buys are horror related. The vampire, nozferatux, is from Texas but hasn't won any auctions since January 2004. The coal scuttle doesn't seem to have anything in common with any of the high bidder's history.

Why not ask these people to end the auction early and include it with their other listing?

Hey come on guys, the seller forgot to add the provenance, this helmet was worn by Erwin Rommell and had his name inscribed under the peak (unfortunatly this is gone due to corosion).
Best wishes

Hey Guys,
It did not make reserve, so it is back with out reserve, starting at $200. Hey John, get your brine bath ready, I will send you some repro buckets, let's make our fortune.

The interesting thing is that you don't have to wait for the years it will take the salt brine to work. The Western Front is still littered with helmets in this condition.

Hey Chip,
We are a bit removed from the western front, and the rust can be hurried by fire. This seller has a $12 and something bid the first time, and he should have taken it.

Years ago I scratched my head at a collector friend who broght back about a dozen of these shells that he picked up in the woods around Verdun. I had no idea that anyone would ever want to pay real money for something in this condition. There's no accounting for taste.
