The Kaiser’s Prize (Kaiserschiessabzeichen)

... I think it's from this page I build up some years ago: http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/Kaiserpreis_(Schiesswettbewerb_von_1895_bis_1913)
The wining Kompanie/Rgt. received a bust (called Kaiserpreis) for the dining room. When the regiment won the competition again,
they got a new bust, but with a different emperor's head.

Steve, again great lanyards - all kinds of the Saxon Wappenschild! And the first time I see a Württemberger-Wappenschild in real! Great! (y)
Thank you and best regards, Jens
Jens:

I don't recall where I found that page. Could well have been from your page. Thanks for that and the new to me information concerning the use of a different bust for multi-year winners.

I wonder what the convention was for units like the 31st Thuringian Infantry which won the Infantry Kaiser Prize a total of eight times!

Steve

Jens ;
Great information and photo .
Is that Kaiser Prize bust yours ? ....
Steve, unfortunately it is not my bust! The bust is in a showroom of a German awards collectors association.

... The hard to find shields and cords ;
Two or three years ago a Polish dealer came to our S O S Military show
The first year that he was there he was selling a great collection of enlisted
pre war shoulder straps .
The next year it was officers pre war shoulder straps and the shooting cords
I also collect shoulder straps so as I spent time seated at his table
looking over the straps , he told me that all of this was from the collection
of his uncle who had put the collection together about 50 years ago
and this was the first time it had been seen .
Steve
... in the right place at the right time - you are a lucky man! ;)
Best regards, Jens

Steve, it doesn't matter where it's from - if it is a good help! ;)

And we checked through all army ordinance sheets (Armeeverordnungsblatt), but I will take a look again for the IR31. *
Best regards, Jens

* I checked it and everything is fine with the Kaiserabzeichen for the Inf.-Rgt. 31 (eight times).
http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/Kaiserpreis_(Schiesswettbewerb_von_1895_bis_1913)

... the 5. Komp. IR32 wining seven times in a row, must be worn the Abzeichen like Nr.14 or 15 (or a mix of both?)?

Does anyone have an example of the early # 14 award ( prize ) in their collection ?
Thanks
Steve

I had posted this elsewhere but here is my Kaiser Prize Artillery collection.
I bought most of these from a collector friend .
***Of most interest is the 1914 example which did not happen .
*** Now read what Tony S. posted about the 1914 award .

I guess it was made up in advance thinking the event would happen

Thanks for posting the copy of the Armeeordnungsblatt. That is something new to me. So these were the source documents from which you compiled your list of the yearly winning units?

Your wiki listing was a very helpful effort on your part. I keyed all that information into a MS Access database from which I created an Excel spreadsheet which enables the user to filter the data to very quickly answer questions such as which regiment won the most King's Artillery prizes, or what is the relative rarity of one type of prize vs. another type.

If the Excel file is of interest to you PM me and I'll send you a copy. I can appreciate the amount of work that you put into creating the wiki listing so giving you a copy would be a small token of appreciation on my part.

Cheers:

Steve:

I don't have any prizes with multiple years on them. In fact, I've never seen one for sale.

I'm not sure how these prizes would have been created. I'm assuming the standard prizes would have been manufactured in advance of the competition with that year 's date on them in the standard format. If a regiment repeated as a consecutive winner and the members wanted that fact recognised by having an award created with multiple dates on it a special die would have to be created.

I don't know how this was done or who bore the costs of making a non-standard prize.

Lots of questions concerning these awards.

Steve,
yes - I also take the Armeeverordnungsblätter and an articel from the OMM-magazin as source, but the list in the OMM had some small mistakes, which I corrected using the ArmeeVerordnungsBlätter and added some other information (for example the "swindle units").

And sure I have interest for the Exel file - excellent idea! - Thank you, I will send you a PM. (y) Cheers Jens

The three OMM-mags (Schützenschnur, Kaiserabzeichen, Chefschnur, etc.) - if someone is interested in the magazines - send me a PM.*
* hmm - I'm not sure, but I can't write/send a PM - or what is my mistake!?! :oops: Steve, maybe you can send me a PM - thanks!

Jens ;
Have you ever seen in person an officer shooting coed for the 1 Garde Regt zu Fuss ?
Steve

Again great information .
The photos and articles on the Probe examples are just great !
Many thanks for the post
Steve

Tony ;
That is very good information
I have a 1914 Kaiser Artillery prize in my collection
I had just thought that it was made up in advance and never issued .
I think that it has a CEJ stamp just below the crown
I was talking to Weitze at the S O S
He said that some of the Naval awards had special stamping on the back plate
I wanted to know more
What is the stamping ?but he had missed last years show
and the customers had not seen him in 2 years so they
swamped his table
It was hard to get in a word edgewise
Steve

Absolutely fantastic! This is a great thread, thanks for sharing photos and information

Cheers
