Bararian officer Pickelhaube

[Please ignore my posting below. It does not apply to this fine helmet]

Actually on 20 February 1914 all Bayern officer Pickelhaube adopted rounded (convex) mounted pattern chinscales. So the chinscales do not indicate mounted or Foot. However, it has the M1914 Wappen, where the Bayern Wappen was reduced in size and the laurel leaves and vines that intertwined in the legs of the lions on the M1886 Wappen were removed. So you can date it to 1914 or later.

Sorry Tony, but the plate shows laurel leaves below the center shield and between the lions' legs, doesn't it? Please look at photo 2 or 5.
So I'm with Zeb, it's a Chevaulegere with plate M1886.

My error. I swear I saw the 1914 Wappen. So tuck everything I said aside for future reference, and Zeb’s assessment is correct. Next time I’ll put my glasses on.

The fittings are silver plated which is turning black. Think ….silver plated tea service. My Oldenburg Dragoner officer helmet has the same patina problem.
