Hi to everyone....
after my adventure with IR88 Pickelhaube I had the opportunity to get another helm …..maybe not rare.:).... but I like it very much and I'm really satisfied of....
A felt Saxon pickelhaube... a little bit “damaged” But I think without any problems....
I love the level of use of the cockades..
As said it's a little bit damaged and there are some attemps to repair it....and here I 'd like t ask you:
I don't understand if in one of these repairs there's a attempt to glue it or it's just oxidations..(I posted a pic with the detail highlighted).
As usual every opinions are welcome in order to know and to learn more about these beautiful helms....

Hi Giorgio,
I'm no expert on felt helmets but it all looks original to me :)
Some small repairs seem to have been done, but all in all the helmet looks very nice. Congratulations!

Very nice helmet Giorgio! The tears in those areas are typical of felt helmets. I have not seen many of these Saxon felts in all my years of collecting. 😊👍

It must be satisfying to find such a helmet with original parts. Beautiful. The felt damage is small and looks like a period repair, maybe a field repair. I’d leave it alone. Glue could mess it up

Really great helmet.

Looking at that spot you highlighted in the red circle it does look a bit like it might have had some glue used but I am certainly no expert and it's really hard to tell not seeing it in person. I only say that as it has that slightly darker almost wet look that glue can cause when it sdoaks into felt.

The couple of felt helm restoration masters on the site can probably tell better than me.

But It's an amazing looking helmet with tons of character. Love it!
