Interesting Chart Illustrating Shellac application to Pickelhaube Shells

I had occasion the other day to scrummage around through some of the stuff we moved when we took up residence on the lake and stumbled across this Chart which lays out the steps followed during the application of shellac to the pickelhaube shell. I had forgotten I had it. Haven't seen it in ten years. Not sure where it came from but I recall getting it from a collector friend in Montreal.

The chart actually has samples of each step in the process which is interesting. Someone went to a good deal of effort to produce this, why I don't know.

It is stamped Peterboro Cardboard No. 1902 on the back. It may reference Peterborough , Ontario which is sometimes spelled Peterboro.

Anyway, I thought some might be intrigued by it.

Thanks for your interest.

I lived in Peterborough for 5 years and as far as I know I was the only Pickehaube collector in a town of 60,000. I have no idea who made this but it was expertly made by someone who knew what they were talking about.

This is super intriguing! I’ll have to save this for when I begin work on refinishing the M15 I picked up.

Jim Godefroy was a good guy, never met him but emailed many times, bought a few helmets from him and parts, he had the best Ebay name "Triplane"

Yes, Jim was a good guy and a talented artist as well. He and I were the only serious Imperial German collectors in Eastern Ontario and Quebec. We jointly did a couple of displays at the Ottawa Militaria Shows where we had over 30 helmets on display and won Best of Show awards. I have fond memories of those days.

Sounds like you had a great relationship and a lot of fun!
