New pick ups from the last few weeks!

Hello all! Hope you are doing well!

I’ve been pretty quiet the last few weeks, mostly spending time with friends and family before I leave. But I’ve had some great new pieces come my way!

Me and my friend Smith have been out building our collections the last few weeks it’s been a total blast! We’ve found tons of items and expanded our collections hugely!

So to start off, I’ll show some of the new pieces I’ve acquired!

First off, picked up a ton of new postcards! Added them all to the album and they all fit perfectly!

Next up is the hate belt, has a ton of Prussian and Saxon buttons on it as well as the original belt buckle!

Third up is the ribbon bar, containing an iron cross, honor cross Lübeck cross and Luftschutz ribbon!

Lastly is the MG gunner badge or patch, this was by far my favorite piece of the pick up that day!

Following up is todays pick ups, didn’t come home with as much but defiantly made it back with some great pieces!

IMG_2497.jpeg

Picked up all this today! The Pickelhaube was a gift from my buddy, paid the whole thing!

Here’s some close ups of the helm,

IMG_2498.jpegIMG_2499.jpeg

Was really wanting to add another Pickelhaube to the collection before I left so I’m very pleased with this! Brings my total of helmets up to ten!!!

As for the rest of the pick ups, I added some more postcards which I haven’t photographed just yet but will soon and may tack on to this post later. And the other pieces were some NCO and officer shoulder boards!

Here’s a photo of those,

Scored all these for $80 which I was very happy about!

This was all I picked up, all in all I’m very pleased with all these pieces, has really helped the collection expand!

As for my friends pick ups, he picked up mostly Soviet items, I’ll share a few photos of his pick ups as well!

Scratch that, all Soviet stuff 😅

He makes my pick ups look like nothing compared to his but I’m honestly just happy to share the hobby with him as well!

Well that’s all I have to report, love you guys!

Again, great haul, Dane! I too have recently acquired several items including things such as a Qing dynasty sword and ACW Confederate snake buckle, but I didn’t bother to post them because they aren’t related to any 19th/20th century European Empires haha

Thank you man, really means a ton! I’d love to see that Qing Dynasty sword, I have a soft spot for Qing stuff lol!

Is the Machinegunner badge original? Or could it be one of the countless fake/replica "C.E. Junker, Berlin" marked ones flooding the market?
(can you show the back side of the badge here?)

And yes, they artificially age them to make them look old which helps the seller to fool unsuspecting buyers.

In my opinion, there are literally far more fakes available to buy with "C.E. Junker, Berlin" spurious marks on the reverse side metal plate, than there are the occasional real one that pops up on the market.

Unless one knows how to tell the difference between an original badge and the thousands of fake ones flooding the market, it's a safe bet to only purchase one with a "Falkenburg & Richter, Coblenz" raised maker mark on the metal back plate. Those ones are the only type the fakers are not cranking out thus far.

Best wishes,

Alan

Thank you for informing me Alan, I’ll be posting some pictures of it here in this comment.

Additional info on where I bought it, it was purchased from a reputable dealer near where I live called, “The War Front” they deal exclusively in militaria and have plenty of experts who authenticate, I haven’t heard of any fakes coming through them. The owner has a very keen eye and can spot fake pieces very well, she’s been in the business for some time. I trust them very much and have purchased three helms from them before as well as other pieces.

(I don’t say this to discount the possibility of it being a replica or fake, just stating the dealer is incredibly trust worthy in my experience)

Cost was $125

Notice how the areas that I have circled on your badge are not like the areas on the original C.E. Junker badge I posted directly above here.

Someone purposely artificially aged the front of the badge you purchased. They did this to make the badge more "convincing" in the look of the age in order to purposely "trick" any buyers.

Sorry Dane, but your MG badge is a modern replica/fake, trying to be a C.E. Junker badge.

Here is an original example, front and back side views.

Original examples sell in the range of $400 or more.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Damn, well that’s a shame. I’ll surely report this to the War front so they can double check some pieces. Never had a fake from them before so defiantly concerning. I really really appreciate the help and pointing out how to spot fakes!

I’ve always wanted an original one of these though, any idea where I can find one?

Thank you so much for the help!

I see one real C.E. Junker MG badge on eBay USA about once every year to two years time. The rest of the "C.E. Junker" marked badges I see on eBay USA in a one to two year time period are all modern fakes, some artificially aged such as this one you found locally from "The War Front", and not from eBay.

My best suggestion is to purchase a Falkenburg & Richter marked example. So far no one is faking their type of MG badge yet.

The fake C.E. Junker badges are easy to spot, once you know what to look for on the red areas I circled. Once you memorize what the bad spots are compared to a good one, you won't be fooled by the bad ones.

Here are a couple more photos of front and back side of an original C.E. Junker badge owned by collector Don D., which I took from the WAF forum.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Alright, I’ll keep my eye out for one.

Again I really appreciate all the help, any form research material on these is incredibly helpful!

Thank you so much Alan, all the best!

You're most welcome.

If I spot an original Falkenburg & Richter example from Coblenz, I'll let you know.

Unfortunately before I knew you here, in 2019 I found an extra F & R example and sold it quickly after acquiring it. They do turn up from time to time, including original Junker made badges.

Thank you Alan, you’re the best!

And no worries, you’re far too kind. Just glad another collector got a great piece!

Hey Dane! I totally forgot to get that photo I promised you! This is a late Qing Dynasty Oxtail Dao Saber, which, based off of its crude construction, seems to be a locally forged sword.Image_20240819_214947_122.jpeg
