Looking for an original Kreigsflagge

Hello all, I’ve been searching for an original kreigsflagge for quite some time. It’s one of my absolute dream pieces that I’ve been dying to find.

Every single one I find is either sold at astronomical prices or sold years ago.

If anyone has a flag they’d be willing to sell or know of a dealer who has a affordable-semi affordable listing please let me know!

Hoping to try and add this before I ship out if possible.

When I read your post
It got me thinking
you are in a time frame of this site PH.com
where you post like this looking for an item
your post goes all the world to all members
this gives you a network to look for wanted items
I compare this to when I started to collect circa 1970
there were no computers for email
no PH.com site
The best that I could do back then was to do a handwritten letter
to collector friends and mail it and hope for a reply
then if you did get a reply with a photo I then would call or write another letter
All of this said to say how lucky are we for this site
Good luck for your search !
Steve

Thank you so much Steve! That really means a ton!

I really respect the older collectors here and the struggles they had to go through to build their collections, I’m incredibly grateful for what we have today and I love learning from all you who’ve been doing this for so long.

Thank you so much again, Steve!

When an original example does occasionally come up for sale, I normally see them in the $500-$600 starting price range, going up to well over $1,000. There was an example that sold on the WAF forum a month or two ago, and I believe it sold for around $1K.

Best wishes with your search.

Alan

Hmmm alright. I’ll keep that in mind.

I don’t mind the starting prices, nor anything up to $1,000 but really anything past that is a bit much for someone my age at this time 😅

Thank you so much Alan!

Hi Dane,

If you are thinking of buying one, please be very careful there are thousands of fakes for every real one.

Just like the MG patchs they are really aged to confuse and deceive younger collectors they even have fake stamps and dates added.

Please post pictures here before you pull the trigger, I love to help collectors and prevent them from being ripped off but after they have already been deceived and taken it makes it much harder for me to be the bearer of bad news.

Not that I can really help too much, but I will try to keep my eyes peeled for one in your price range. Should I happen to find one, I can post the link here. Good luck on your search.

Aye, I’ve seen tons of fakes, eBay is incredibly guilty of having them. I’ll surely come to you before I purchase or finalize anything. Thank you so much for the help! 😁

My pleasure Dane when I see a new collector getting taken advantage of it makes me mad. I'm not saying I'm the worlds authority on flags by any means, but I've certainly seen a lot of them and have learned a few things over the last 50 years of collecting. Sadly, a lot of it has to do with how to distinguish fakes which is worth its weight in gold nowadays.

Many of the original flags you see today are original but from the period after 1918 and were brought back by veterans of WW2 as souvenirs. They are not Imperial German flags from WWI there are distinct differences between the two which are easy to see when you know what to look for.

I'm posting this picture to help you out a bit and help you weed out the crap and post WWI flags. There was a nice guy on Ebay who was also tired of seeing fake aged flags rip people off daily. This was a picture he had, like they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Once you narrow the search, I can help you out with markings and stamps. Regards and happy collecting John Josef

I was the one who had the photo posted on eBay for a couple of years time.

I borrowed the photo from the WAF forum. It was the late member known as "oldflagswanted" who had originally posted the photo there on that forum.

Just like the Imperial German machinegunner badge, these flags are also a minefield to the unsuspecting collector who is not aware of the differences between a modern made fake flag and an original Imperial era made flag.

Best Wishes,

Alan

O K
You answered my question
about Ben K. Weed
We were collector friends for many years
Ben located for me 2 original I G regiment flags
one of which is this Eisenbahn flag that I still have
the other as a Prussian Line Infantry Regt flag in yellow
that I used in a trade deal
He also helped me to get my first Prussian Line Infantry Regt flag in white
and some 1870/ 71 K D M flag streamers

That's hilarious Allan:LOL: so you were the nice guy on ebay (y) I got that one right (y)

Then I guess it was you I sent a message thanking for posting it and asking if you had gotten any hate mail from crooks selling bad ones.

It's great to keep the educating of new collectors a priority and one of the great parts about being a member here. (y)(y)

Maybe this one?
