Wilhelm II in old Garb

Kaiser Wilhelm II

Well-known member
Hello all.
I have a few more interesting photos from the web that I'd like to share.
It is well known in history that Kaiser Wilhelm II had many uniforms, and he liked nothing more than to wear them.
I have looked at many photos of Wilhelm, and still to me some of the most interesting are these, his "old" uniforms.
He dressed as Friedrich der Große once, for an event, pictured at the bottom, I cannot find what exactly that event is, so if anyone knew, that would be nice. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy looking at these photos, hopefully someone finds them interesting such as I do.

I think that this one has to do with Grenadier Regt1

I was fortunate to have viewed two of the Kaiser's actual costumes with my own eyes in Huis Doorn last year. None of which was made strictly according to the uniform regulations of that time. Nice they had costume parties otherwise his Majesty certainly was a FARB!!

-Was there on my birthday 19th August 2022...A 7-plus hours special...No need to say this "event" will be hard to equal...
-Thank you to Sabine...aka Missus Boss and Leon; our host at Huis Doorn.

Congratulations on being able to view these items on your birthday last year. I agree with what Steve said: "What a great Birthday present for you!"

I had to look up the term "FARB" or also used as "FARBY", as I had never seen nor heard of it before. I had no idea what the acronym you were using referred to. For all of us here who do not know what the acronym stands for, here are a couple of definitions:
  1. (US) A historical reenactor (especially an American Civil War reenactor) whose efforts at a historically accurate portrayal are, in the opinion of the speaker, inadequate (for example, wearing a modern wristwatch with period costume). The opposite of farb is "hard-core" (or hardcore), someone who is, in the opinion of the speaker, an "authenticity fanatic".
  2. (US, slang, intransitive) To act like a farb; to portray a historical character in an inauthentic way.

This event took place in 1897. It was a costume party in the Marmor-Palais where people dressed like they did 100 years ago (1797 - 1897) in honor of Prussian history.

Great, Thank you very much for the link. Very interesting!

On picture 3 is the famous painter Adolph von Menzel. The little man in black close to Wilhelm II.

Best wishes

Great photos! Thanks Alan for the definition of FARB as I had no clue as to its meaning either. 😊
