I was not sure where to place this
My former collection of Feldgrau Hussar cloth hats
when they went to the double piping.
I used to find these all the time "in the old days "
I had a collector friend out in California
Mike Parker
He would go to the Military shop and look
at what was for sale
then send me a letter with a list
and the cost
I would send him some money
and the list of what to buy
A couple of them were Saxon.

I had 75 WW2 German Army visor caps in one collection......all sold years ago. I look at the prices of them now and couldn't afford to collect any where near that many now.
Yes, prices have really changed.
Yu may not believe it, but I started out collecting 3rd Reich. I bought a super nice
condition Panzer officers visor hat for $25.00
I traded it back & fourth with the only other collector in my area.
There was also an officers Waffenrock in an antique store
Price was $ 25.00 .I didn't have $25.00 back then
soi told my collector friend about it
he had the money and bought it
we also traded it back & fourth
who knew were the prices would end up
later German Paratrooper helmets were $50.00

i guess in 40 years time the collectors who are starting now will have the same conversation :)
I am now like the "old timers "
When I started they told me that
I was crazy. The helmets were at "the top of the market "
and if I started in 1970, I would never get my money back.
I bought a Hessian FAR 25 officers helmet with star for $250
then later a Hessian LIR 115 officer for $ 450
so, will they go higher from the prices of today, Oct 5 , 2024 ?
I will not be around to see it .
How many will be able to afford to collect?
Steve
Correction of the date 1970

The moderators and I have seen an increase in new haube collectors here. Some of these folks seem to have collected WW2 German and are getting out of that. Then we also have some new young guys joining us, who are collecting Imperial German. These are all positive developments but obviously, helmet prices depend on the state of an economy and disposable cash. I have no idea as to the future value of our collections.

This is good
some collectors move from 3rd Reich into Imperial
I started to collector the German Army of WWII
when I was in high school
The steel combat helmet was what started me to collect
