It seems to be made from bear skin. It looks original but I have never seen a liner like that with so many folds around the rim and puffy edges. The interior construction appears to be proper.

I agree, and the feldzeichen does not seem to have the correct dimensions, and the threads between colors should not be so apparent.

Post #1 appears to be a reconstruction using an original. The cords appear original, the Kolpak (bag) someone made by hand, the ‘hair’ or whatever that is could be from an emu or anything. Feldzeichen is also homemade, chinscales appear new replacement parts, liner is also homemade from some poor animal.

A pointer: when you look inside any helmet with a liner, look at the fit. Liners have to fit the head like a second skin. No soldier could endure a day with the creases and folds etc. of a poor replica liner.

First, our homemade “tune-up” liner from hell.

Now an original Preussen Pelzmütze. Look at the liner. Fits like a second skin.

Did you know...

[Book: 'Les hussards allemands et leurs colbacks'] page 6.
*On the direction the furs were attached...
-At first the furs were attached to the frame vertically, hair pointing downward. Naturally brown sealfur.
-As of 1858 the black dyed sealfurs are attached horizontally.
When you face a sealfur Pelzmütze:
...The direction of the hair will point counterclockwise..
