SOS 2025 Photos

My Great Grandfather was 7th Tenn. Cavalry CSA under the Command
of General N.B. Forrest "The Wizzard of the Saddle "
Steve

That's awesome I'm sure that is something your very proud of and rightly so IMO, his Military career and accomplishments were just extraordinary.
My family are relatively newcomers to American and missed the ACW, but my dad was obsessed with it. Every night he sat in his armchair with a book smoking and reading for hours.

As a child we would visit battlefields during vacations, and he would know every single commander's name and every units position during the battles it was really amazing. (y)

I am a big Civil War fan as well, probably ever since my Dad took us to Gettysburg when I was a kid. I think I've read about 20 books on that battle alone.

Here was my SOS helmet pickup. A 18th Dragoon NCO. Not perfect, but original and in good shape once I cleaned it up a little. I am really happy with it!View attachment 56467
That helmet looks super nice to me.
Is it a Kammer helmet with regt stamp?
Who was the seller?
The only tables that I saw photos of
was A o K & Weitze
IMO you did good

Sort of off our regular subject

I have to show this

A special Bavarian fibre helmet with M15 fittings. I have never seen one of these before! This is in amazing condition considering what it is made from. Note the cloth reenforcement stitched around the entire one piece shell.

No rear spine and one crack in the shell.

A nice thick original chin strap.

A nice complete "oil cloth" liner with original draw string! :)👍
I know who bought this and he lives practically next door to me! I’ll be seeing him in a couple of weekends hopefully and see this remarkable haube

A surprising sight....6 dudes dressed up as WW2 Japanese soldiers at the Show. At least they are all interested in Military History. 👍 James sold that Saxe tunic in the foreground!
IMG_3620.jpegA decent selection of feldgrau straps.
IMG_3634.jpegA nice neusilber tschapka.

Brian/James/anyone else attending: Do you know whose table this was? Had some very nifty Shutterfly books on his Kurassier collection...

That looks like Brian Sanders standing behind the Uhlan uniform.
Brian is mainly a Husaren collector , but he also has some very super Kurassieres .
Brian has a brother who collects Uhlans and his son is now a 3rd generation collector of Dragoons.

We had a couple of good conversations with the son. Our first time meeting him, apparently Dad took him through his Hussar collection before coming to the show.
Wow - a legendary Hussar collection. Thanks gents...mystery solved!

Good eyes Steve! Yes, that was our table. It was just my Dad and I at the show this year. Neither of my uncles could make it this year.

We spent quite a lot of time in the hobby room this year before the show, as I am really ramping up on building my knowledge base. Had some really great conversations with James and Brian too about pickelhauben. I have tons of books and photos, but nothing like holding a helm in your hand.
