Flag or souvenir....

Not sure what it is.
It was sold in the auction room I attended too, for more then 50 years now, back in Antwerp.
So I bought it over the phone with only thise pictures to judge.
It looks like it is embroid but on the other hand, left under the frame there seems to be like a reinforcement strap as one can see on flags in general...
It is 70 by 52 cm big.
And no futher details...
It will take a while to get it, so I am curious to hear what anyone might think it is....

This is very cool, Kris, to see that it is embroidered, and not printed on the cloth.

Congratulations on a nice find many years ago!

Best Wishes,

Alan

It is in, and I took it out of the frame.
The cloth is nailed on to the back of the frame. I 'll leave it as it is for now. To much other stuff to do....

And here is a other framed KM souvenir.
Need to inspect this too, but not know.
I am not sure if the scene is print or painted on the glass. Because the inner black frame is (painted on the glass!) for sure....

I would strongly suggest that you not attempt to move the painting from the case. The Glass and Paint could have become irreparably joined and if you were to try to remove the glass, it could separate the paint. Nice pieces.

Kris,

Have you considered the flag being some type of homemade craft item made by some Hausfrau or young lady. So more patriotic than souvenir. Certainly doesn't look like it is an actual flag. Way to delicate.

I fully agree!
I had to judge it by bad pictures, when posting, but it is indeed no flag.
I would also go for a home made ...."thing"....

No wurry's, I spend my entyre life among antiques.
Even got myself a degree in restoration.
That doesn't mean I can't make mistakes, but if I do... I allways try to minimalize them ;-)
That is the reason why I want to take my time to analyse it. After I settled more decently in the new home.

@stuka f: Congrats on your new home. I know you have an incredible collection. I look forward to seeing how you chose to layout your expansive collection.

I like it regardless of who made it etc. A very nice period piece that probably meant a lot to someone.

Both are wonderful items to decorate the war room. Ive always wanted an Imperial Flag but can’t tell real from a fake when I see them online.

The old framed flag is a perfect size for the wall.
