Kaiserliche Marine Tellermütze - S.M.S. Pommern

Hello All.
I attended a military show and found this Tally cap from the Pre-Dreadnaught SMS Pommern, which I could not justify passing up for the price. This piece goes along well with my Tellermütze from the Yacht Hohenzollern.

The headband is rather misshapen, as is most often the case with these, but aside from that, and a few moth holes, the piece is in quite nice condition and is marked very well. Overall I think it is another great condition to my collection.

For a little more Information, SMS Pommern had her keel laid in March of 1904, launched in 1905, and completed in 1906.
In 1907, she as commissioned and placed in II Battle Squadron, HSF. She was the third ship of the Deutschland class of pre-dreadnaughts.
She was present alongside of her sisters at the battle of Jutland in 1916, where she was struck by one, or possibly two torpedoes by the destroyer HMS Onslaught. This detonated one of her 17cm Magazines, essentially blowing the ship into two pieces from within.
She took with her all of her 839 Crew, with her sister SMS Hanover nearly striking her sinking aft end.

It sounds like this was a good deal and a piece acquired at a pretty nice price. The tally itself would be worth around 80-100 Euro on its own. The Tellermütze looks promising. I would like to see how the kokarde/cockade is attached to the blue top.
The Mützenband and the cap might not have been originally together. That really doesn't matter though. I would never suggest putting on a stretcher. I would love see photos of behind the Kokarde/Cockade.

Best Regards,

Hello Justin. Sadly I cannot get a decent enough photo to show you the cockade's attachment, and even I cannot see it well, because the cockade has very little play, however I think it has a loop on the back which is sewn to the bit within the cap.

Tony S has a beautiful huge scale model of the Pommern he built that is unbelievable. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind me posting this pic from my last visit.

Nice pickup!

What a beautiful model and display! It’s remarkable how Tony has amassed such a wonderful and diverse collection over the years. When I stumbled upon his website decades ago, I was in awe of its extensive collection. It’s unfortunate that he doesn’t keep all these current and past items on display at Kaiser’s Bunker.

By the way, the Tellermütze posted above is great!
