JR 93 Officer "Black Hole Sun"

No Steve, nothing to do with IR 93. Just having a bit of fun here, black refers to the composition of the helmet and sun describes environmental conditions. :) Thanks Doug, hope you and Tony are having a great time!

I just got back a day and a half ago, Tony's collection is beyond comprehension and always enjoy seeing it but moreso spending time with my brother from another mother lol.

Of course some liver damage was done!

It‘s a very nice helmet. The both visors needed stitching. Unfortunately I had to let it go since I needed the money.

Best wishes,

GardeUlan

Sadly the visor stitching was omitted in the description of the helmet when I purchased it but Remy as usual was excellent and is looking after the repair and shipping costs. Excited to get it back!

Black Hole. The entire shell is made of molded black felt. Consequently, the stitch holes on the inside can not be seen easily unlike with a leather shell.

The only way to do this is to light it up with bright sunshine.....stitch outside on a full sun day!

That is very fair
and speaks well of them , as always

And "sew" it begins! :)

T pins in place and holes lined up. I am using much finer cotton thread on this because this is what was used originally. I thought that I could leave the scales on but the thread kept getting caught which adds to the difficulty.

The restitch puts a lot of stress on the silk no matter how careful one is. There is no other way. My hand is going in here over 200 times.

Some additional info: This is an Awes piece as the underside of the spike base is marked as such. The visors here are also "fibre" the type used on Imperial visor caps. As we say in CN the stitching of this piece is "slow sledding", I have to fight for every stitch when I am coming up from the inside. I have ordered some "blunt needles" to give them a try on this project.

Brian, I believe you will be pleased with the blunt needles. I have never stitched a black interior before; I have done a bright green interior felt bodied officer. Have you tried some back lighting to see the holes? I have placed a small pocket size led light facing light up in a mound of play dough on the table, and then used the back lighting to find the holes. This is a wonderful helmet and deserving of your talent!
