Can you share with others here that when I have sold you helmets in the past, that you have normally had to pay very little in customs tax for any helmet you have purchased from me. I cannot recall if you ever had to pay nothing upon receiving a helmet from me.

I know that Francois has received helmets from me with No customs tax due upon receipt of some of the helmets he has purchased from me. He's living now in France, and it seems that the French Customs are not as concerned maybe with collecting tax, as compared to when he lived in Belgium. When there were times when he did have a customs tax due upon receipt of a helmet from me, it was normally a small amount that was due.

Hi Max,

Thanks for your message and interest in the shako, I appreciate it.

The National colors Kokarde will cost anywhere between $75 to $125 to purchase, when you see one for sale on eBay or at a collector show.

An original leather chinstrap with neusilber (nickel silver) fittings on it will be more difficult to find, and much more expensive, unfortunately.

I sure can. I bought several helmets from you, and other members here, alway's had to pay little or no customs taxes. Last time I bought helmets from @ussguppy , I had to pay €18 for one, but nothing for the other one. The helmets I bought from you were about the same.
I have no clue about the Russian customs though.

The "over 100 years" rule (where there is nothing to pay) only apply in the US, for artefacts over 100 years coming in to the US.
For Belgium and France it is a lottery....but is general it is the lowest taxe of 18 €.
The trick is to put a low value on it. That could generate problems when lost, for the inssurance....but over all the years I have send and recieved parcels(that means, many, many parcels!) , 4 got lost; 2 at low value where refund by the inssurance and two at high value (10k and 2k), never where....

yes, it's a very good price, but here in France there have been a few cases, where packages have been "lost" between Germany and France, or "confiscated or stolen" by US Customs. It's scary, and personally I prefer to buy in France, or go directly to Germany or Belgium. A French friend living in Australia bought me a spiked helmet. Well, he waited until he came to France, to put it in his checked suitcase on the plane. But even in this case I have an unpleasant experience: a Frenchman returning from the U.S.A. had his spiked helmet confiscated from his suitcase, on the pretext that it was a dangerous object for security. Nonsense.
 
I would have loved to buy it but I just don't see any way to finish it. I hope the new buyer is a member and will share their journey.

I was hunting for the correct chinstrap and actually did find one but sadly it was attached to a Shako and cost 1400 euros. 😢

Exactly....
My first parcel from here (France!) to Poland with DHL dissapeard....a 2 k loss, must be 2 years now, never heard anything from DHL...
Not to mention my 10k loss, also with DHL (but DHL Belgium) and in fact a fault of the sender. No solution have ever been provided, not even a response to all my messages to both party's....
When I sell, I 'll use a auction house and will not take any responsability for postal errors or theft...
And I can assure you we did send (and recieved!) a ton of parcels during all the years of doing buisiness in the antiques. And we had some minor problems; maybe 4 or 5 during all those years, and never something that did't get solved.
 
If you really want to play on the safe side, pickikg it up in person is still the best. But of course not possible (or very time consument and expensive) if the seller lives in another country or across the ocean.

I've had one case where a parcel was missign but turner up after a week and one case (from the UK to Belgium) where it took 7 weekse to arrive. But nothing lost for good thankfully. Only 1 or 2 letters back in the time I used to collect death cards.
 
DHL Stinks, Period! Their service is horrible! I greatly dislike DHL.

I have Never, Ever, had a package lost or stolen while in Shipment to Any European Customer since going back in time to the 1990's era.

Several of you here have purchased multiple helmets from me with No Problem. Coert is one who has purchased several helmets from me, and I appreciate him commenting above.

I have shipped many, many items to European customers who are not members here on this forum, over this time period since the 1990's era, with Zero Loss or Damage to any item.

Kristiaan has purchased several helmets from me when he lived in Belgium, and afterwards while he is now living in France. no loss of any of the helmets and no damage to any of them that he purchased from me. We had an odd experience one time when after the package arrived in Paris, it was sent back to the U.S. and landed in Detroit, and then it was finally sent back to France. He finally received the helmet almost a month after I had sent it to him. The box arrived dented in quite severely from viewing the photo he sent to me after the helmet arrived. There was no damage to the helmet inside the box, fortunately, thanks to the excellent packaging job that I do when I mail a helmet.

I know how to package properly so that your helmet or other item will arrive undamaged.

I am truly sorry that some of you have horror stories that you have experienced, or that you know of someone else who has experienced something bad. I can assure you that this is Not the Normal Experience. These mishaps are the Exception, and yes, it is truly unfortunate that they happened. I am truly sorry that this has scared a few of you here from wanting to purchase from me, or other members here in the U.S.

I agree with Alan on this. I purchased many items from him, and other members here, all arrived safely and in good order here.
Then again, our postal service is great here, items shipped by USPS to the Netherlands are never sent further by DHL or other postal services like DPD, they always arrive here by Post.nl, which is great. It never ever had any problems, DHL, or DPD are prone to have items disappearing, unfortunately.
