Hessian IR 115, what a beauty, and already long time looking for one of that regiment as they fought a terrific battle near our holiday home and I do visit their graveyard of august 1914 battle of the frontiers very often, Hard to read that stamp (does not seem to be 115) , and mainz is not in hessen either, so that seems a bit difficult, but the helmet looks very convincing to me, the wappen and banner seem to have always been in place, and seem authentic to the helmet itself

Where do you live?, I do think the symbol is pound sterling so your asking price is 2000 pounds?

I you like to buy it from you for the asking price of 2000 ( if I'm correct it is the pound stirling I presume?)

Mainz is not in Hessen, but a company making those helmets, Martin Mayer, was in Mainz. Many enlisted IR115 helmets, particularly the latest ones, bear the Mainz stamp. Those are usually not IDed IR115 but RBA18. Those are sometimes referred to as "IR115 M15s" (no feldgrau examples known)

I confirm what Bruno said.
*There are two manufacturers of helmets for the 115 Leib-Infanterie-Regiment:
---Maury et Cie 0ffenbach or Mainz (2 factories) .
--Martin Mayer in Mainz.

*2 types of helmets for the 115R:
-Model M1895, marked 115R.
-The M1915 model is an exception to the Prussian rule. It is no longer marked 115R, but only with the name of the military store: RBA XVIII.

The 2 helmets have different details to distinguish them.

I---115R M1895:
The chimney is stockier, more cylindrical. The lion's lower paw rests on the leaves, and its toes are finer, with claws. The tails are further apart. The star of the Order of Louis has sharper rays, etc.


II---RBA18 M1915 :
The chimney is thinner and more flared. The lion has different details. The lower paw seems to be pushing back foliage. The toes are rounded and end in balls. The 2 tails are close together, The star of the Order of Louis features rounded radii. etc...


Another special feature of the RBA18 manufactured by Martin Mayer in Mainz:
La Teller is made of tinplate painted black. For the record, yes, the M15 never existed for the 115 R, it was the RBA18 that took its place.

Thank you Clovis and Bruno, for these very interesting details, as a headgear collector for over 30 years I think I know some things about WW1 headgear, and got a feeling for real or fake, ( like all of us learned the hard way), (that’s why I dared buying the helmet although the stamp did not show origin from Hessen), but contributing information like yours does make me realise how ignorant I really am in comparison to you. this is really the strength of this forum, the enormous knowledge bought together by the members. Yes I did buy the helmet!
I think it is a beauty, and as said, visiting the ‘cimetiere franco allemand ‘ de maissin in the Belgian Ardennes very often ( stop on my way with my racing bike nearby our holiday home), eating my bananas and visiting the graves in that beautiful quiet place shared graveyard French and German, I kind of feel related to the regiments ( French and Hessian) that fought a terrible battle there in August 1914,
