Question about JR95/153

All,

I have bought a JR95/153 helmet a while back and it came with a reserve cross. I thought this would mean that it should have been worn either in the RIR95 or RIR153.
I tried to find some information about these regiments but was unable to do so. I found lots of details around the RIR94 and of course JR95, but none for the two mentioned above.
After some google research I determined that there were more infantry regiments than reserve regiments, so it seems not all regiments had actually a corresponding reserve regiment. Here is my twofold question:
Does anyone know with certainty if there was an RIR95 or RIR153 and if so could you share some information/links about them?
If there weren't any reserve regiments for these two units does this mean the regiment had active and reserve officers in the same regiment at the same time wearing different helmets?
On a side note I am reading right now the book about JR95 by Major a.D. Buttmann, which is in interesting read. According to the book there was a mix of reserve and active officers serving in the unit, but I am wondering if they were actually wearing slightly different helmets. (one with and one without the cross)

Thanks for all input.
Andreas

Hi,
It´s not so simple... There were no RJR95 or RJR153.

Reservisten and Landwehrmänner of this two active units (I and II/JR153 - Sachsen-Altenburg, I and III/JR95 - Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha and II/JR95 - Sachsen-Meiningen) moved in following Bataillonen at the mobilisation:

- III/RJR66, II and III/LJR36 (Sachsen Altenburg)
- I/RJR71, III/RJR82 and I and II/LJR82 (Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha)
- III/RJR82, I and II LJR82 (Sachsen-Meiningen)

And at the end of 1914:

Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 231 (+MG.-Zug)

Aufgestellt in Altenburg (R.Stb., I.,II., III. v. Ers.-Btl./I.R.Nr. 153)

Unterstellung: 50. Res.Div.
Kommandeur: Oberst z. D. v. Kronhelm (Bez.-Kdr.
Halle/Saale)
I.: Major a. D. Leyen gef.: 23.11.14
II.: Major Rübke (I.R.Nr. 82) gef.: 22.11.14
III.: Major z. D. v. Bornstedt (Bez.-Offz.
Magdeburg)

Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 233 (+MG.-Zug)

Aufgestellt in Meiningen (R.Stb., I., II.v. Ers.-Btl./I.R.Nr. 32) und Gotha (III. v. Ers.-Btl./ I.R.
Nr. 95).
Die Zusammenstellung aus vorwiegend Kriegsfreiwilligen fand in Ohrdruff statt.
Unterstellung : 51. Res.Div.
Kommandeur : Oberstleutnant z. D. Stropp
I.: Hauptmann a. D. Bresler
II.: Oberst a. D. v. Wunsch
III.: Major a. D. Grimm

Thank you very much for the very informative details about the question I raised. So the reserve helmet I have could have been worn only in these units like the RIR 231 or 233? Or could a Lt. d. R. have worn the helmet while serving in the JR.95 or JR153?

I think we need to differentiate between Kammer helmets for enlisted personnel and helmets for active duty officers and reserve officers. I don't know if the rule was the same for enlisted personnel and reserve officers.
I think Landwehr officers commanded in L.I.R. units, but I don't know about R.I.R. units.
Philippe should be able to answer that question for us.

It would be helpful if you could post some picts of your helmet ;)
Kammer helmet or private purchased / Eigentum?
If Eigentum helmet for an officer, he also could have of course served in all the units above, but also in any other unrelated unit ...It was common that officers, active, Reserve or Landwehr were sometimes commanded in some units where officers were urgently needed because of loss of officers...So they nevertheless continued to wear the helmet of their first unit under the Überzug in the new unit.
