I have this vert clear photo of a Prussian Grenadier NCO
The only way for me to know is to I D the cypher on his shoulder strap
I see the cypher as "FR"
The strap looks white to me
there were 4 Prussian Grenadier regiments that had the "FR" cypher
GR 1 white with FR III ; but his helmet should have the 1655 Banner on it. I don't see the banner
GR 4 white with FR II ; he looks to be G R 4 to me, but I don't see the 1626 Banner on the top of the eagle
GR 5 yellow with FR I ; yellow straps in old photos alkways look darker to me
GR 11 yellow with FR II ; again the shoulder strap should look darker ?
I would like to give this photo it's proper I D
looking for help. Feedback please
nothing on the back of the photo, only the photographer was in Berlin
Odd location for a G R photo
also on the front written in is 1917 . Late for a pre war Waffenrock pose
Thanks

Steve,
I agree - I also think that they are white shoulder boards.
The photo is dated 1917, so Gren.-Rgts. No. 2 & 3 (with "FRW ...") are possible - but I think its not a "FRW"!?
So maybe the “1626” bandeau from GR4 is not visible from this angle on the helmet!? (with "FR II" Schulterstücke).

Can you zoom in the shoulder strap / into the Namenszug?
Best regards Jens

- Gren.-Rgt. Nr.2 hatte ab 1897 Litzen und Gren.-Rgt. Nr.3 hatte ab ca. 1909 Litzen.

Steve,
... when you zoom in, I think it's most probably an “FR” – unfortunately, the small number underneath is not visible.
Best regards, Jens

I guess that it is "toss up "
I think that I will call him G R 4
I think that the photo was taken earlier
and given to someone in 1917
