I like the helmet, but you asked for opinions so I will make a few points. The chin scales, although very nice, are incorrect for this helmet; they should be the heavy mounted type which have different rounded fittings where they attach to the posts. The spike top appears to be brass so the silver wash may have worn off. The 4 studs that retain the spike base should be silver. The interior metal has been re-painted at some point in time. Overall it will look great on display and is a nice helmet to own.

As Rkinade says it displays well, although to the trained eye the tip of the spike jumps out as incorrect. it should be the same colour as the spike base. I suspect that the spike base has been replaced with one that was possibly sand blasted. The spike domed studs should be the same colour as the base itself not brass.

I believe that the Kokarden while original have been re-painted. The liner looks good but the interior of the shell and the visors have been re-painted with a high gloss paint which jumps out to someone with experience of original examples.

My observances:
-The trim appears to be plated brass so who knows if the spike and studs were scrubbed or replaced.
-The wappen looks like it was replaced, it doesn't sit flush and the holes were expanded.
-Where are the inside of the studs or rivets on the neck? They aren't fake like on the ersatz helmet so how uncommon is that?
-The large kokarden look like replicas, not just repaint, especially where the inner part transitions to the ring
-The M91 posts look like those found on late war models, and as stated previously the chinscales are incorrect. See pic from my 1915 dated JzP.
-also I don't see any markings, not even a size on the trim unless they're hard to see.
-aesthetically speaking, the rust inhibiting/encapsulating paint is painted over the stud washers, and the liner still has mildew.

It's an ok display but probably a frankenhelm

It has a lot of problems many mentioned If it came to me, I would pass but everyone has their own way of doing things.

I always think that if I have to start explaining away the problems to make myself feel comfortable with the purchase its one, I shouldn't make.

Hello,

Thanks to all, it’s not a buying project but the old collector want to know if his collection bought 20/30 years ago is correct or not …
So, not a good start …

I will post other helmet of the collection soon :)

Best regards
