massif spam attack going on...

I went through and read all the real posts and then did mark as read for the rest to get rid of the spam (until more comes).

It’s a bot attack not a guy posting. These spam attacks are always bots and with AI bots now it’s going to get worse before it gets better. I imagine the platform vendors will have to improve their gatekeeping code.

On the plus side though I know where to get a short term loan for today’s AoK update!
 
Agree. these are Bots

Might need to add Cloudflare (basically an "are you human" wall... if there is no other fix available.

We've been experiencing these spam attacks over at WRF for a while now. Cloudflare seems to work. But is a bit of a pain.
 
I agree. I have no clue, but isn't there a way of protecting this website against them?
I for one am willing to pay for it, just like the rest of us would I presume.

I missed the spam from today. Was it just basic spam or was a full blown DDoS (denial of service) attack?

We get both of these on WRF all the time. Basic spam is just annoying and the Mods manually clean it up daily, but a DDoS attack has shut down the website sometimes for days.

So until there was a better software fix for these DDoS attacks, our tech team installed Cloudflare.

Now.....I'm no techie but the way I understand it, using Cloudflare (or a similar software), does not let the attacks even get through. Before you can even get on to the site you have to go through Cloudflare and validate manually that you are human. Bot's can't do that (yet??) so they are stopped.

If there was an attack, you would never even know because it never reached the forums servers.

Once a bot gains access it can be a bugger to try to remove them. Plus they will inform the entire bot world your an easy access point and you get inundated over time. It was no coincidence that we got hit twice within a short time last night. My guess is the bots language of preference is Russian or Chinese as well.

I've set up Cloudflare turnstile as well as the bot labyrinth which *should* make it harder for bots to navigate the website.

I will look through the logs as well as there's usually patterns to how they attack - i.e. what types of accounts etc.

I sure will continue reporting Brian, as I did many times before. I, and many members here like to keep this site clean of all of that.
This site needs to be only for us collectors, I am here almost everyday, I don't react mostly, but I read every new posting here.
