Goodwill's $1600.99 M15 What???

It may be shill bidding (meaning the seller secretly bidding to artificially raise the price). Who knows, it does seem strange.
 
I can't tell for "Goodwill" because I don't know what or who they are, but to "laundry" money antiques are often used.....
Saddly it is a practice that is encounter more and more, the actors can go from politicians to the mob...
 
Ended for around $1700. Well, yes, as John said, this is a 'thrift store' auction site. All of the items are donated and people bid on them. Now, here's the thing with this helmet. This is the THIRD auction it was offered in. It sold before fore something like $300 and $250 (I really can't remember for certain), so it's interesting that this happened.
Winning bids are basically 'donations' to Goodwill, which has suffered some bad press (complaints) at times. Here's what they say about their charities: Goodwill uses revenue from selling donated items in their thrift stores to fund job training programs and community-based services, helping individuals with disabilities and disadvantages find employment. They also offer various programs like mentoring, green jobs training, and free online courses. St. Vincent DePaul is similar to Goodwill, but I don't think they have an on-line auction site.
Where we live, they hire young workers, people with disabilities and donate to local organizations. So, they're not perfect, but their auctions can yield some good buys... although, I'm confused about THIS one! :)

This may be some sort of scam or something similar... offering the same item after it has very clearly sold for what appears to be insanely more than it is worth doesn't seem like a legitimate business model.

I don't think Goodwill has time to do such things. This time, it went for $600 or so. The first time, $300. Just like any on-line bidding, you get some interesting bidders.
