Howdy all! Hope everyone is well!

I have finally done it, after many years of patience and waiting, I finally have my dream rifle!

A genuine Gewehr 98 from 1916 with matching bayonet!

She’s not the cleanest nor mint, but she’s perfect to me! I’ve been dying to get one of these beauties since I was just a boy. Can’t believe I finally have one after all these years!

Congratulations Dane, nothing like finding that dream piece. (y)

Sadly after 50+ years of collecting I'm still hunting down my dream piece. I have never even seen one for sale before and know of only one that was in the background of a photo I once saw online, and I have been asking them to sell it for a few years now. I reach out at least once every six months or so just to let them know I'm not dead yet and still very interested.

I'm even scared to mention it to anyone because I'm afraid it would draw attention to something nobody ever talks about.

Out of site out of mind as they say. I guess I'm superstitious when it comes to collecting and I don't want to jinx myself. :unsure:

Pretty sad really. :cry::ROFLMAO::LOL:

Congratulations again that was a steal at 300 no doubt.

Congratulations Dane. You don’t find these often for sale, let alone at a decent price. I would imagine most were sporterized in an effort to make them more modern appearing. I have seen several ww2 bring back k98’s at public auctions, but never a ww1 vintage. Makes me wonder how many actually came over as souvineers in the day.

Glad to hear you found your dream rifle. I have one myself. It's been sitting in one of my gun cabinets for a long time. Nice to see yours has the sling as well. I believe they are hard to find.

I must have a look at it as I recall it is regimentally marked on the butt.

Very nice. These G98's have a very cool look and feel. I was super happy when I bought mine years ago as well.

I once saw 5 original slings on a militaria expo and bought one of them. Unfortunately I sold it some years later for no particular good reason.
