restoration of a Russian guards officer's shako

Hello. A friend of mine bought this shako, or rather what's left of it. He asked me to try to restore it. I agreed. It's a rare item; only a few of them have survived, so it certainly can't get any worse.

A drawing of how RIA shakos were sewn. The drawing was made by the renowned restorer of the Artillery Museum in St. Petersburg, Viktor Malyshev, for which we are extremely grateful. He has made dozens of drawings of many headdresses from different countries.
 
I made a frame out of felt as shown in the drawings and soaked it in shellac so that it would become hard and not lose its felt structure. Unfortunately, I didn't take a photo of this moment, since I didn't plan to make a thread about restoration.
