Yes they do, but hey, they're Americans. They think they know it all, but they do not. Europe is quite different, versus the US.
And that means socially, but also historically. I can go much further than that, but I won't.

I think the argument as to who invented them still goes on and that's between the French and the Belgians to figure out.

But I do think that if American Soldiers fighting and dying on foreign fields in not one but two World Wars to liberate both Belgium and France want to call them french fries, I think they earned that right. (y)

Think about it if not for their efforts maybe we would all be calling them pommes. ;)

I've eaten fries in Belgium a few times I like them and have made something very similar at home by putting beef stew on them. They are very good more like a meal compared to what they sell here in the USA.
