M18 Ear cut out

Howdy all, hope everyone is well!

My buddy is offering me this m18 ear cutout for $400, I don’t know a ton about these but I know they are quite rare and expensive. For now, these are the only photos I have at the moment but will get more.

Wanted to run it by all of you before I secure this one.

(Note, I’m in no rush to secure it but I do have plans to have him hold it if it’s good)

He stated that there’s no markings anywhere on the helm that he can see, but from what I’ve read it’s not uncommon for the stamping to erode off as it wasn’t a strong strike on these.

Of course, I would love y’all’s input on this one!

All the best,

Dane Jensen

Hi Dane,

Agree the comments above. See how the dips in the original he has posted are in alignment but on the one you are considering has a lower line on the first dip. Shell is likely re-worked from an original size 64 shell. And these should all be stamped ET64.

Digger.

Not much of a friend IMO if he is trying to take advantage of a young collector's inexperience and excitement for the Hobby.

Either he has no idea what he is talking about or by the look of the photo's he provided he has a little workshop where he is producing a full line of fake dug helmets.

This type of thing really winds me up.

Like others have mentioned it's a real :poop: run away as fast as possible and loose this guy's contact info.

He either doesn't have a clue or is trying to rip you off either way that's not someone you want to make purchases from.

Dane as has been said it’s bad. There should also be a lot number stamp in the middle of the underside of the dome, these ECO all have them there.

Well gee I’m sure glad I posted this one! 😅

Thank y’all for giving me the heads up and warning, don’t worry I will not be buying this hell and I’ll be steering away from him for the future!

No money has been or will be spent on this one!

Love y’all and thank you so much for the help!

Also just to be clear, he isn’t a faker or a normal seller, he picked this up with some other pieces at the Newville reenactment event a few weeks ago.

He does some restoration work, but never tries to pass of fakes as originals intentionally.

He encouraged me to post it and have it looked at as he himself wasn’t sure to its authenticity.

I hope your friend did not pay much for it, if so he should seek a refund.

Is that a real M18 cutout he has in the background?, if so he should know the shape. IMG_1959.png
