Here is a M1914 Prussian metal helmet in field gray. The is a very unusual variation. It is marked B.J.A.XI. which is Bekleidungs-Instandsetzungasamt des XI Armekorps. This translates to Repair Clothing Depot attached to the XI Armeekorps. The end of the stamping is difficult to read and probably designates a specific depot. It also has a stamping of 66 which isn’t the size as IMO the helmet is maybe a size 55. The exterior of the helmet has been repainted and one can see the old paint chips and other imperfections painted over during the refurbishment. There is also a 1917 ink stamp in the helmet’s interior. Metal furnishings are in gray except for the spike base pins which are finished in black. I have no explanation for the black color except that the pins have not been removed and have been there forever as attested with the photos. Removable spike. Great chinstrap and cocards. The liner shows use but it not dry. There are no additional holes or repairs. SOLD + shipping.

Sure. The third photo (tin 13) in my "Additional Photos" posting shows a photo from the inside of the helmet behind the Wappen. The Wappen is secured with the traditional leather wedges. Let me know if you want any additional photos.

A great example, I don't remember having seen one with M15 fittings before. Mine has darkened brass on the same feldgrau shell. 👍

Another distinct feature....the black pre war style liner, all that I have ever seen including my version of this have "natural liners". This also includes my second ersatz tin which is a black van d Hayden with brass fittings. If I had the "coin" this would be in the mail to my abode/batiment ! :)
