Welp, after much delay, holiday travel, and some adventures with US Customs (who added a
15% tax, based on HH's habit of showing full hammer price on the shipping docs - thanks HH!), these two finally arrived.
The HR11 Husaren painting is by
Theodor Rocholl, whose masterful, almost impressionistic work I am very fond of. It really elevates the ol' collection room. And very importantly, my wife likes it a lot.
The cap is one I've been seeking for literally decades - a rarer-than-it-should-be officer for
Leib-Dragoner-Regiment (2. Grossherzogl. Hessisches) Nr. 24. This one is identified to Rittmeister Hans Rogalla von Bieberstein, who survived the war despite being wounded in the opening weeks of 1914 by a *lance* of all things (thanks for the research Jens!). It let me finally complete my family portrait of DR24 headgear!
