Helping a friend

Howdy all, hope everyone is well!

My friend recently had this Haube come into their shop and they are having some trouble identifying it, I could tell it was a Saxon civil helmet but nothing beyond that, would love to know if any of you could identify it!

It’s nice one but as always, very cautious and always wanna check with y’all!

All the best and thank you so much!

I have a bad gut feeling about this one buddy, the Spike base doesn't look right for some reason bad fit and then looking underneath there is a double set of holes. The kokade also looks like a repro.

I don't know much about these Civil Pickelhaubes Dane, but my radar is going off and it's saying that it's something that has been put together which is followed by internal alarm saying stay away.

Looking forward to hearing what guys who know these helmets have to say.

Maybe the Spike base was just put on wrong, I don't know but where the rear spine comes up it doesn't look right. Also, the stud retainers just don't look right but I could be totally wrong just going off my gut feeling.

I have no intention to buy this one, even if it turns out good it’s not something I care to have.

I’m always skeptical, I know civil helmets aren’t always standardized so that’s why I came to ask y’all.

This one came into my friends shop and they wanted me to ask y’all your opinions on it and what it was before they put it up for sale.

Similar to this one but not exactly:

Has the same kind of disk with the double holes.

Well Dane, I'm no expert on these helmets, but the spike base retainerplate, (on the inside), looks to have extra holes to fit the spike on it. To me, that retainer plate looks to be off a military haube. Kokarde is a replica, and the rear spine is, in my opinion, also from a military haube, as its too long for the spike. Then again, I'm no expert on these helmets though.

Hello Dan,
This is a non-commissioned officer's helmet (Eigentum) from the Saxon Kingdom's Gendarmerie. It is not strictly military, but not strictly civilian either, unlike the same helmet but in silver nickel silver, which would be that of the Police.
The peak base is specific to this model. Only the cockade is a recent reproduction.
The ‘Teller’ model, shown here, is the right model for the Gendarmerie or ‘military’ Eigentum. The four round holes are for half-spherical head screws and square nuts, and the four oval holes are for foldable tongue rivets. The rivets shown here, with two foldable legs, are the ‘Eigentum’ models used at the start of the war, from the moment of mobilisation. Stars for officers with this type of leg can also be found in ‘Kriegsfertigung’ production.
On the left, a Customs officer's helmet, and on the right, a Saxon Gendarmerie officer's helmet. Mine has the Perlring and officer's stars, yours has the non-commissioned officer's Perlring and the semi-spherical rivets.
