Opinions on Wappen

Looks excellent! it does not take a lot of effort in most cases to remove 100+ years of oxidization1 Well done Pete! 👍
 
I put it in vinegar with a bit of salt and then used a soft toothbrush to scrub it with that mixture. I then used dishwashing liquid after to clean it again with the toothbrush. I just go slowly
Excellent results Peter. Gently removed decades of dust and grime. It did not appear to remove any of the gilding. Nicely done.

P.S. Occasionally I use the method above on my eyeballs…….

Ouch! My eyes hurt just thinking about it.

I learned this from forum members to get some verdigris from the wappen on my first Pickelhaube. Then used it again when I bought a plaque with an Artillery home service helmet badge on it that had turned brown. Got it from Military Antiques TO and Dave said it was like that because you Gunners polish the crap out of everything.

Same result but with pristine gilding on the badge underneath the grime.

Does that solution work on all eyeballs? I will try it when I can see better lol
