I just found this old photocopy of the 13th Royal Fusiliers showing off their booty. Sorry about the poor quality buts its interesting to see the variety of gear !

Yes, there are quite a few of these kinds of “moments” in the film *Apocalypse La Somme* by Isabelle Clarke and Daniel de Costelle. On the evening of the Tommies’ victory, on the battlefield, it was customary to have one’s picture taken wearing a spiked helmet. Here is another excerpt; I’ve selected a close-up. In fact, most photos show soldiers wearing helmet covers. Here, the absence of a forehead plate shows that double drilling to fit another plate could be seen in the field and was not necessarily a modern-day hack.
