Good Morning,

Hope this post finds all of you doing well.

M17 camouflage steel helmet, size SI66, made by Eisenhütte Silesia, Paruschowitz Oberschlesien.

Name and unit number on the inside of the helmet and on one pad which is hard to make out.

Matt

Thank you very much for the photos of this camouflaged M17 helmet. I have always had a strong interest in these helmets, and I find this example particularly attractive. I am considering adding one or two pieces of this type to my collection.

I have read on some collectors’ forums that opinions can sometimes differ regarding camouflaged helmets, particularly concerning the originality of wartime finishes versus later applied camouflage. This subject seems quite complex, and I personally find it difficult to form a clear judgement based on images alone.

What is your view on this type of helmet in general? I would be very interested to hear your perspective and experience.

Kind regards,

Original and complete, Very Nice!

Looks to have received a light coating of varnish or shellac. Something that was done in some cases in an attempt to preserve it by bring home veterans. The color pallet and application look period, the shellac has yellowed a bit giving it the current appearance. I'll let others judge the strap.
