Silent films, my favorite!

Howdy all! I hope everyone is well!

Well I may have scored something pretty amazing, an original poster for the silent film from 1923 “on the banks of the wabash”






From the Rose theater in Port Townsend Washington likely from around 1924.

This film is considered lost media with only one copy of it being in a private collection and that version being a shortened version.

Only around two other posters from this film have ever appeared on the market, both have sold for extremely high values.

This one was found in my childhood home town of Snohomish in Washington at an antique mall.

I’ve always been a silent film nut, Charlie Chaplain, Buster Keaton, some of my favorites.

Overall, very happy to find this piece and be able to preserve it for years to come!

Very cool Dane, back in another life I used to collect movie and concert posters, well before my militaria days. We moved into our new house last year and when we were packing up our old house of 25 years lived in last year, I came across a forgotten about tube of posters tucked way in the back of a storage closet on a top shelf.

Opened it up and found about a dozen roughly 50 year old - but MINT condition - concert posters I had rolled up inside long forgotten about, along with a very cool Apocalypse Now movie poster in giant sized format, like 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide all folded up underneath the tube! 1 of the old concert posters I was able to trade for a long sought after and very rare promotional record poster I have been after since 1981, for 45 years, which is now framed in my music / games room! The rest I sold at a local used record store or gave to friends who are still into old posters and such for their music rooms.

These old posters are so cool, and of course your movie poster is over 100 years old, how cool is that?

There are some studios that do complete restorations of old posters to look 100% original, smoothing out creases and folds, fixing tears and even replacing missing pieces with handprinted art to match the poster if your interested.

1 of the old concert posters I was able to trade for a long sought after and very rare promotional record poster I have been after since 1981, for 45 years, which is now framed in my music / games room!

Doug my man you can't leave us hanging we have to know what that 80's poster is.

My brother worked in a Record Bar store at the local mall back in the 80's I used to snag all the promo posters and still have them somewhere.

Well @John Josef , when a metal band named Iron Maiden got really well known, I was given the promo poster when Aces High came out, a single which became quite famous here in the Netherlands (and in all Europe). The shop owner who gave it to me knew me quite well, I was alway's visiting his shop, and buying LP's there. I still have it, off-course, and it is now hanging in my toilet.

It is the original promo-poster.
I have more, by the way, from other bands, Motorhead for instance, but it wouldn't surprise me if nobody in the US know's who those blokes were though.

Haha same with getting the concert posters and promo posters. I got to know the lady at the old Woodwards Ticket Counter in a mall beside our high school (I think I spent more time in the mall than in high school…) and I would get almost all the concert posters once the concert was over. She was really nice. The guys at A&M records would do the same with the promo posters lol!

The poster I’ve been after since forever is the Iron Maiden “Killers” released in 1981.

I had it lovingly restored to new condition as it had some wear and tear and had it framed.

(note - I do NOT restore pickelhaubes, only get a visor restitched by the master Brian when in the rare time a seller does not disclose it is loose or missing stitching!)

When Lemmy passed away, a piece of me got hurt too. I watched his funeral, it was sent live here on TV.
Ozzy was also one of my greatest ever guy's.. Man, how I miss these old-school rockers..

Yup our heroes are slowly aging out. Sounds like my Ozzy / Motörhead poster should have gone to you! The poster I traded was a vintage dead mint AC DC concert poster along with a Van Halen poster from their first European tour, the kind they’d put up on the side of buildings and boards, very large. It was from Belgium if I recall, Antwerp late 70s.

Nobody would know these blokes in the USA that's funny my friend. I saw Maiden open up for Priest in 1981 that's like three years before Aces High was even released.

I was always a Paul Di'anno fan.

I had that one, but it had the staple holes in the corners. I will have to try and dig some of that old stuff out, sold the Killers 3/4 sleeve jersey t shirt to someone in Japan for 700 bucks about 20 years ago when we were cleaning out the Attic and my wife wanted to toss the old concert shirts in the trash.

Thanks! this is the actually the promo standup heavy cardboard cutout of Eddie holding the axe and album. The "poster" in behind is what the framer made, scanning the album cover and framing it so in person it looks more "3D" like Eddie is coming out of the poster itself. It is a fantastic piece! It is amazing what these old T shirts from the old concerts go for now hey?!? I had all the old T shirts but they got sent to Goodwill or something like that by my mom way back in the day when I moved out. I now boast a concert and album Maiden T shirt collection that spans 2 full dresser drawers lol. Mrs B says I dress like I am 15 again, and if you're 15 at heart I say why not?!

The "poster" in behind is what the framer made, scanning the album cover and framing it so in person it looks more "3D" like Eddie is coming out of the poster itself. It is a fantastic piece! No problem Doug! I enjoyed reading everything you guys had to say, super cool stuff! Really sad I missed the golden era for metal and rock, must have been something seeing them rise to stardom!

I’ll keep you guys updated if I get anymore of these, I think I have one in mind that I plan to snag if I can. Might have a new hobby on the rise
