    Valuable helmet?

The price it ended up at isn't too bad for that one.

    Valuable helmet?

Two or more who want that Mecklenburg for their collection perhaps. Looks like most of the gilding and silvering is gone. We'll have to see where this ends up... Just a grand more and they could've bought a nice one from Weitze.

Seeking Help in Identifying this Shell

This is what I'm seeing... sword????? on the left of the photo, indents in the center (squiggle crossed out, disregard) and the shadow of the Wappen? Of course, I could be well off base. Let's wait for others to offer opinions.

Seeking Help in Identifying this Shell

Pretty hard to say without the visor. If all of the 'arms' of the cross base imprint are equal, then it's most likely Hessen, or a Beamte of some sort. The 'shadow' from the Wappen looks more like Wurttemberg or Bavaria to me, but it's hard to tell. Even looks like the shadow of a sword on the...

    Help needed to ID Pickelhaube

Here's another... from Rhineland, looks like post WWI without a crown, orb or scepter? Kofferhelm type with removable spike. I've seen a couple of these with the same wappen and crest. Wouldn't the horse on the crest in Rkinkade's be Westphalia, now linked with Rhineland? Cheers! Ron

    How to properly conserve pickelhaubes?

When I had a kiln at my disposal, I had a press mold for ceramic 'half heads'. They weren't fancy, just about 4mm thick clay, glazed and fired. Glaze is a form of glass, so they were great for helmets of all kinds. The one in the photo is for a tanker helmet. Cheap stands were used, but I also...

    (4) Original Bavarian Kokardes

All that said, and James being nice and quick on the trigger, does anybody have a Bavarian NCO (Field Artillery) cockade? Or a repro? Ron

Well, I did mention it was a fake.

My first was an original Prussian M15 marked to an Infantry regiment, but it was in such terrible shape, that now I use it as a form for an Uberzug. But, there was virtually nothing for a new collector to learn from in the 1970's. I found Joe Walter's "House of Swords and Militaria' in Missouri...
