Michiel, I saw that kurasses for sale and was very tempted to buy it, it was cheap for what it is. If it had been there pre-brexit, I would have probably purchased it. Hope you like it.

Until recently, I was the owner of that Pickelhaube. I sold it to the dealer who sold it to you. Glad its gone to a good home. It is a faultless sleeper.

To add, I now remember one of the fixing bolts is missing from the back on the wappen, that is why you see the on your first image dropping down to one side.

knowing this helmet well I can tell you that it has been, and very recently heavily cleaned, over cleaned. The last owner has even taken the gold wash off the chin scales and clover leaves. It has only been wearing the uberzug for a short time also.

I like it. Looks good and easier to use. Thanks for your efforts on this.

Out of interest, I checked the number on mine and it is R1778. although mine still has some of its felt camo finish as per the first 2000 issued and field tested.

Not much to dig-up from the World Wars in the UK either. But on a similar theme, I have always been interested in the Battle of Britain, and the Blitz. From that, in my workshop, I do have a small collection of items relating to the air-war such as incendiary bomb tails and fuses, a few pieces...

There is a famous picture of someone doing the pick-axe work to a pile of helmets after the war. These still turn up today, they usually have a distinctive square looking hole to the top. On the subject of damaged WW1 steel helmets, I know a collector / dealer in Belgium who brings his goods...

That's good. In the known serial number range of known originals, and in fact one of the very early ones.

Good choice. I examined this helmet a couple of years ago when it was with a different dealer. The black patch of rust to the middle top of the tail goes through to the other side, so it basically a hole if the rust were removed. Not something that can be fixed, you dodged a bullet there.

As the topic starter I feel I should play Devil's advocate. I agree there are some individual prices that are a bit surprising, but on the whole, I thought prices were comparable to "Age of Kings" and Regimentals, while less than Weizte. For example, there is a very nice Weimar 94.r priced at...

Thought some may be interested to know, there is a new website here in the UK with some very impressive and rare WW1 German headdress. I have been InTouch with the owner who says he is not even halfway through listing the collection, and is just listing it randomly as it comes out of the boxes...
