Hello everyone,

I just got contacted by a friend who received this helmet. It was found in old house in his village.

What do you think about this one?

Can you help my identifying the model? And by chance the approx value?

Thanks,
Roland

Here‘s one from the inside. I think that one screw is missing.

You are right, one star is missing. It is a Landwehr officer's helmet from around 1900, unfortunately in a somewhat chipped condition. However, everything looks original and is a good basis for restoration. He's definitely worth it (y)

Lucky for him and his friend the restoration won't take much, a few stitches and a single star for the base and this one will be right as rain.

For the stitches, can you recommend any sort of material? Or can I use regular polyester sewing thread?

Is there a recommended thread for cleaning, leather treating etc? I‘m using the search function but haven’t found a satisfying answers. It’s my first ever helmet and don’t want to do anything wrong to it 🤣

Thanks for the tip with the cotton thread. I will go with this one as well.

Please no Polyesta 🫣! Please use cotton or Linen thread. Brian (Username B.Loree) wrote a post about stitching with the threads he uses. He and Wojtek are our Masters of Restoration 😉

Seemingly almost perfect condition, but looking at the condition of the paint it does not look so beautiful anymore.Under finger pressure it will begin to disintegrate and then begins a small problem for inexperienced renovators. As for me, the entire paint is to be removed and reapplied. To this, there is a comprehensive repair of the front and rear canopy with the leveling of irregularities.A month of work depends on the speed of drying of layers of primer and varnish.Regards.
Wojtek
