I don't know the old helmets , but I like it .
So in silver , what regiment would it be ?
It has some features of a Dragoon helmet
but I don't know what front plate was worn by early dragoons ?

No Steve, not cavalry. This beauty is a M1942 prussian pioneer.
All the old prussian model have the cruciform base and the square visor which make them look like cavalry helmet.
