Just to add to this post here are photos of the markings inside the tornister, Issued first to the 118 infantry regiment, 4. Grossherzog. Hessisches from Mainz/Worms XVII AC and possibly to the VII AC? It is also stamped with a makers mark but I cant read it Stu Das158er

Thanks Glenn Does that mean that Stoeber was a professional soldier, he had no other occupation? Would there be an archive that might hold detailed information about his time with the 158 regiment? or is this as much information it is possible to find. My hope is to find out as much as possible...

Hi Does anyone know how to stop the hair falling out of a tornister, or anything else for that matter (just incase Im not going bald or anything :oops: ) Is there anything I can treat it with to preserve it? The tornister I have is stamped to the 118 JR 2K 1B 1890 Cheers Stu Das158er

Just found this, the 12LJR-18LJR fought in the same area Vichnev in 1915 could the cover have somehow got passed over at that point? Stu-Das158er

Hi Joe That got me even more confused!!! :-? With regard to the numbers, I am gessing that when the cover went from the, 21st the 18th they took the 2 off and put on an 8 the 8 is newer but is deffinately of the period. At least we agree on Prussian-the rest is very confusing Stu Das158er
