The first one (non-officers) is definitely an old repro. The second one looks ok though.

Hey thanks Brian! I was waiting to hear what you'd think! To answer Pointystuff's question: If I had to say the outside does look like it had hair follicles, you can see all the little dots. But then again I'm no leather expert.

I'm post some in a bit. It sure looks and feels to be leather or maybe a leather composite. You can see some interior close ups in the first set of pics I posted. ........."I really need to know more about this" :lol:

I'm not sure, It looks like some sort of coating. Here are a few close ups of the flaking or crazing on the outside shell.

Hi Ron, I totally respect your opinion and I agree with you. But I was wondering are you only basing it off that the leather is not lacquered? It does have some sort of thin coating on it. It is weird though. But didn't Ersatz helmets used all types of materials? I'm just curious why your so...

Also the last picture, I tried to get get a shot of the stamp. I can't make out the words its very faint... the only thing I can make out is 1914. I even BLACK LIGHTED this helmet to see if anything might show up. And nothing glows or shows signs of chemicals. :twisted:

Yeah I thought so too... it surely is weird. So is the inside. Its almost like some sort of ersatz material.
