    Tschako Police Württemberg

If the group wants to make a new forum I would be happy to participate. I have a rather large collection of German Police items from Imperial through the DDR era. Let me know what you would like to see and discuss. You could use some of my old posts to populate our new forum category if you...

    Tschako Police Württemberg

Firefly, Some very nice Polizei headgear and uniforms that you are showing. Thanks for sharing your collection. I have a question. Did the various post 1945 Polizei Musikgroup bandsmen continue to wear the wartime red plume with the Tschako?

Nice. Your tunic appears to have the wine red piping of the Gemeindepolizei (GEMPO). One of the set of Polizei uniform color plates by Knotel.

    Bavaria police Pickelhaube

Peter, your Bavarian Gendarmerie helmet is set up correctly. Yours has the correct chin strap and Wappen. Serge, you got it right. If you have access to the helmet look to see if it has one set of holes for the attachment of the Wappen like Peter's helmet does. The Wappen should also be...

    Re-Issued Time and Again

A great example of the continuing re-issue of German equipment, including helmets.

    Bavaria police Pickelhaube

Serge. This helmet is correctly set up as a Bavarian Police Pickelhaube. I cannot tell if the fittings are brass or white metal. If brass this is Gendarmerie, if white metal municipal police. The spike is distinctive to this style of Bavarian helmet as are the lions and the small Bavarian...

Very nice! The Weimar Republic period M89 (far left bottom row) is also particularly hard to find in my experience.

    I got some " Faustriemen "

I think these are color plates of the first private German version of this book. It was later published in English as, Kreutz, Hofmann, Johnson, Reddick, "Edged Weapon Accouterments of Germany 1800-1945". ISBN 1-929572-03-4. A very good color reference that I was slightly involved in proof...

    I got some " Faustriemen "

You are correct that soldiers continued to wear their peacetime knots into the wartime. Particularly worn on private purchase Extra-Seitengewehr worn as "walking out dress" off duty sidearms. A good observation as one has to look closely at black/white photographs to see this.

    I got some " Faustriemen "

Outstanding! I will point out that (generally speaking) knots with white cloth straps are peacetime while those with grey straps are wartime. You have a wonderful mix of regulation and private purchase style knots. I really like them.

    A Police M1916-17 Steel Helmet

Thank you for your comments. HatEnjoyer, the Germans & Austrians wasted nothing and had a robust refurbishment and re-issue regime that almost ensured reworking equipment to bring older model items up to then current standards, Thus, moving from the M1916 leather liner band to the then new...

    Strange shoulderboard

Yes, this style of button is generally found on Beamte style boards. Some will have crossed keys and some will not. Shown in the Assmann & Sohne catalog as buttons for "Schutzpollizei, Kommunalpolizei und Gendarmerie" Specifically identified as "Rosetten fur Bayern". So, I suspect your tunic...

    A Police M1916-17 Steel Helmet

Gents, To complement the excellent article on Austrian Model 1916-1918 steel helmets posted by tony v. here is another variation. This is an interesting example of a long serving Police helmet Stahlhelm variation. This helmet started out life as a Model 1916 WWI steel shell Austrian helmet...
