Joe, Yes, I'm afraid it is! Not being much of a weapons man I didn't even notice the rifle bolts that Brett points out, but I very quickly spotted the reversed 7 and the fact that the jackets were all buttoned up female style. :D

Joe, The negative has been reversed on that last photo. Notice that their coats all button up the wrong way? I believe that's a 7 on the helmet covers and shoulder straps. Also the NCO in the middle is wearing his sword on the right side of his body instead of the left!

The Mother of All Hauben: Saxon Garde Reiter Officer M1907

That, and the Prussian Garde du Corps parade helmet, are my favorites. I'll never, ever be able to have one, but I love looking at them. Like the nice one sitting on the table beside King Friedrich August III of Saxony!

An interesting brew of things here...

Yeah, and notice the sellers name Pyratestyle, maybe he really is a pirate!

    ID "16"

I know nothing about their weapons, so you're probably right, I was just looking at the number.

    firefighters at sea?

You're probably right Gus, the Bavarian Navy! Weren't they extremely small and only fought one battle in history and that was against the Swiss Navy?

    ID "16"

Well, my first guess would be Infanterie-Regiment Freiherr von Sparr (3. Westfälisches) Nr.16.

    Unknown Uniform in Kaiser's Entourage

I'll try Chris, but I can't promise anything! :o I found this photo on a German website. The left and center uniforms are for high ranking knights in the Order of Malta, the uniform on the right (with the sleeves too short) is for the German Johanniter Orden. You can see it is a red coat...

    Unknown Uniform in Kaiser's Entourage

Chris, I don't think I've ever seen a color picture. I've never seen a photo of the current Herrenmeister in uniform, so I don't believe it's worn anymore. From the tint of the black and white photo I have always presumed the uniform followed the color pattern used by the Order of Malta on...

    Open season on identification

Joe, The older fellow on the left may be King George V of Hanover, the last reigning king; but I'm thinking it may be his father, King Ernst August I (mainly because of the large mutton chop sideburns). If the one on the left is Ernst August I then the fellow on the right side is the last...

Strange Pickelhaube.. Fantasy or non german?

I meant to look up the coat of arms of the city of Nürnberg and then forgot all about it! I think this strengthen's the possiblity that the helmet is for some type of Nürnberg official.

Strange Pickelhaube.. Fantasy or non german?

Michel, I am no expert, but I would hazard a guess that the helmet is German, but it is probably for a city police force or possibly a fire officer. My first impression is perhaps from somewhere in Bavaria due to the lions heads and the cockade mounted on the side of the skull above the lion's...

    Open season on identification

Joe, I don't have any contact with anyone personally, I just happened to find the regimental web page. I only found two e-mail addresses on the web page, one for the Life Guard Regiment, [email protected], and one for the Guard Company, [email protected]. I don't know if there would get much response...

    Open season on identification

Joe, I think I identified this gentleman on another thread where you posted this same photo. I'm 98% sure he's an officer of the Danish Royal Life Guard Regiment. Here's a photo from the Danish Royal Life Guard web site of the commander of the Guard Company, Major Johnnie Korsholm Andersen...

    Odds & Ends

When I look at this photo I can't help thinking Danish Life Guards. Here's a photo from the Danish Royal Life Guard web site of the commander of the Guard Company, Major Johnnie Korsholm Andersen. I think his uniform is just about identical. In other photos of the guardsmen where I can see...

    Tientsin 1905

The first photo is kind of sad, a German honor guard being saluted by a French general and 9 years later they'd all be trying to kill each other!
