    Bavarian Infantry M1910 Feldmütze

Ron, I guess my answer to your being overseas is to ask to see things here before you make your decisions. Your assumptions as to how the NCO type cockade got on the cap make sense. It is possible to get the prongs in between the outer gray wool and the cotton lining. Occasionally, you see a...

    Bavarian Infantry M1910 Feldmütze

Ron, Normally, the so-called NCO cockades are smaller than the sew-on type. I don't think the bottom (Prussian) one is sewn on. I may be wrong, but that black thread is probably a remnant left from the original sew-on enlisted cockade. You can feel the lining to see if the brads are still...

    Bavarian Infantry M1910 Feldmütze

Ron, I'm not the last word on anything, but I have seen a lot of stuff over the years. You kinda get a feel for it. Regarding markings, I would say that there are fonts that you look for. Then, it is a combination of things, the size of the stamps, multiple stamps that are very similar (like...

    Bavarian Infantry M1910 Feldmütze

Unfortunately, the stamps are fake. The cockades look suspect too. I think the cap may be a re-enactor's special. It takes a while to learn these things, so please get help here before diving in. I hate to curb your obvious enthusiasm, but take an old collector's advice, learn first, buy second...

    Prussian Seitengewehr S98/05nA & Troddel

Ron, It's hard to tell. Perhaps the strap is just rolled and would look fine flat. The picture is so small that it is difficult to see what is really going on. My first impression was that the strap had been replaced, but on second look, it appears that it may just be misshapen. Regards, Chip

    Prussian Seitengewehr S98/05nA & Troddel

Ron, That first one looks all yellow, which would be the 11th company. The short gray strap is wartime. Forget the second one. Chip

I would be grateful for any help with this picture

Here is what the M15 enlisted strap looked like. Every example that I have seen from this unit have both the letter "T" and the "7" fashioned from cord, while all other units had the "T" and number chainstitched on. Chip

    Hat Insignia

Here's the description of the Portepee. It was was made from gilt wire and blue silk. The bottom was "acorn shaped" like an army Portepee, but all gilt. The cap, stem, slider and strap were a mixture of gold and blue. Chip

    Shoulder Board Identification

Well explained Glenn. Thanks for the extra effort. But just for clarification, the Train troops had worn the Kaliblau shoulder straps since September 21, 1915. The new units formed in the reorganization of 1917 continued to wear this pattern strap, only with the new unit numbers. Isn't this...

    Shoulder Board Identification

There is no information currently available regarding the wartime formed units of the Train. There is info for the prewar battalions, but it gets very complicated during the war with various reorganizations taking place. There is supposed to be a book coming out by Jürgen Kraus that should have...

Prussian Sword Portepee or Bayonet Trodell

The seller is wrong. The green in this case indicates Jäger, not Saxony. This appears to be an Oberjäger knot, equivalent to a infantry NCO knot. Used by most Jäger units. It has nothing to do with MG units. Chip
