I'm pretty sure the National WWI Museum does not have one of these (for sure not the basket). Over the years I have seen all sizes and shapes of large cartridge cases called "Big Bertha" cases. Seeing this one, I don't think any of them fit the bill. Chip

Ronny, It does look like there are two possibilities. I think the horn is just a private add-on. I could not find anything that would indicate that either Jäger officers or postal officials officially used the horn on their swords. Chip

As an added note (forgive me), Feldpostbeamten carried the Infanterieoffizierdegen and their insignia was the hunting horn. So.....there is the possibility that this is a military postal official's sword. Chip
