    Tientsin 1905

I believe there is a photo of these fellows getting issued Kar 88's in one of the photos on AHF. So would not be surprised if they took them along.

PW, happy to see you are here also, welcome to a great forum, Brian has done a marvalous job and you are going to enjoy it immensely. The Husar is armed with a Kar 88, as I see no stacking hook. That is the only real difference between the Kar 88 and Gew 91. The fellows armed with the Gewehr...

Returning Soldbücher to the troops, Wolfenbüttel, Jan 1918

To add emphasis what Tony has said, it appears all the stahlhelms are M1916 / M1917, we can see the rivets for the M91 chin strap attachments. Even more remarkable, use of the Gewehr 1888 in 1918, when the proverbial "common" knowledge has in the past suggested these rifles went into the...

    Baden Feldgrau Tschako Part 2

I originally posted this photo back in April, which highlights a Baden Sturmmann wearing his feldgrau M1860 tschako with Baden wappen. His collar dogs identify him as a member of the 56th Infantry Brigade. (Circa August 1914 - April 1915). The photographer has added his name to the negative...

    Mauser Gew. 98 Sling

Gus, these are Swedish slings? Oh boy! I picked up my sling like this reasonably, and had not come across one like this before. They are about 40", same as a Gew 98 sling. The buckle is not at all like the 88/98 slings as stated above. But the button is much like the older Gewehr 88 slings that...

Dieter Storz book is an excellant treasure trove of information, with plenty of photos too. Dieter is a curator at the Bavarian Armee Museum in Ingolstadt.

    Mauser Gew. 98 Sling

I have one quite similar to this one. It is missing the parade loop and the sling swival.

    What do you think?

Could be!? Just one of those things that is not an easy answer. If you were holding the photo, you would definitely look thrice! :D

    What do you think?

Was going through some photos today, and two cut down photos I had gotten added to a full sized PK I had bought several months ago turned up. It is cut down to about 3.25" x 3.0". At reverse is a cancellation stamp dated 28 June 1915. Part of the S.B stamp is there, -ep. Ers. Batl. Res. I- the...

b.R.I.R. 17 had a regimented cover, R over 17. This could be something peculiar to either the 12th Bavarian Reserve Infantrie Brigade, or even the 6. Bayerische Reserve-Division in 1914. 12. bayerische Reserve-Infanterie-Brigade: Kgl. Bayerisches Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 16 Kgl...

    Bavarian Army Museum Ingolstadt

Chris What an excellant trip! Third photo down, M1908 with uberzug is from the Bavarian 16th Reserve Infantry Regiment. This was a Adolf Hitler's regiment, he just might have been issued a hat like this in 1914. It was also used by Landsturm.
